Font can allow the reader to understand a genre. I was given five genres: Horror, Romance, Action, Sci-fi and historical drama. I was asked to go on dafont and find five fonts that match these genres. This is what I found.
Horror
This font is Metal Clash. It gives a horror theme because it looks like claws have just carved these words. The jagged edges look like spikes, tares or claw marks. Because of all these, it gives a kind of scary affect, thus making it a horror themed font.
Romance
This font is So Lonely. Straight away from the name you can tell it's a romance based font. The font itself is like a single woman's writing. It's fancy and sweet just like many people's relationships are.
Action
This font is Altrashed-Rough. The lettering looks a little like daggers, weapon-like, like the ones they use in action films. It also has that old western/action look that is also powerful. This all adds to the action theme. It looks a little scary so could be used in a horror film too but it's mainly action.
Sci-Fi
This font is Renegade. The font reminds me of the fonts used in the Star Wars Trilogy and in Star Trek. These were Sci-Fi films so the theme works. It also looks robotic, computer based with is Sci-Fi because they are made mostly using a computer or they a based around computers. some even contain robots.
Historical Drama
This font is Hand Typewriter. The font is boring and dull, this is what me and presumably many people think about historical dramas. It is straight to the point and not making anything fancy or distracting, this is what historical dramas do.
These are just five examples of what font can do, there are many more out there just waiting to be used.
