Analysing Movie Posters

The background of the poster is blue tinged, this suggests that there is a lot of action in this film. Since the background is blue, the colours of the hero's are enhanced so they stand out more to show they are more important. The A in Avengers is used again in the release date as the A in may. The audience does not need foreknowledge to know this because it is in the title. There is the symbol of marvel above the title, the audience would know this is because the film is based of the marvel comics. The main figures on the poster are the heroes, they are positioned at the front of the screen, the hulk is a little further back almost like an outsider because everyone is unsure of him even though he is a hero. The figures are represented photographically. It looks like it is for 15 and up because there is a lot of violence in the background and marvel comics is usually for teens and onwards. This poster persuades people to go see this film because it has stars like Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. These stars are quite popular lately so having them all in one film as their best characters will persuade people to go see it therefore they are being used as a unique selling point. The violence in the background suggests it is an action film, but the marvel superheroes in the front suggests it is also a fantasy film. The attention is gained by iron man as he is the biggest and most upfront of them all, plus he is one of the most loved superheroes so interest would be grabbed straight away. The tagline 'Avengers Assemble' uses alliteration to make it catchy whilst still implying that all the main marvel superheroes are joining together.

The main colour in the poster is a sort of orangey-yellow, like a fire or destruction in the distance. This foreshadows the destruction in the film, this also suggests that it is an action film but because of 'iron man' in the front of the poster, it is also a fantasy film. The title 'IRON MAN 3' is made using the iron man suit colours but also looks like it's made from the same metal as the armour is. The marvel above the title informs the viewer that it is based on the marvel comic 'Iron Man'. The two main characters 'Tony' and 'Pepper' are positioned in the centre of the poster with everything else surrounding them, this could be because it is them against everything else. The villain of the film is positioned in the corner of the film because he is outcasted as the villain and has his own little corner. They are represented photographically. I think the audience intended is 15 and up for the same reasons as the avengers, there is a clear visual that violence is involved and marvel comics is for teens and onwards. The thing that persuades people to see this movie is the stars shown on the poster; Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow. These stars are very poplular lately so are used as their unique selling point. The attention is gained by shock of the fact that 'Tony Starks' suit is trashed. It is portrayed in other films as impenetrable. The tagline 'Prepare for a heavy metal!' sounds like fighting talk, which means there is going to be this life or death fight in the film.

The colours used in this poster are various shades of blue, this gives it a feel of an action movie. The clothes and the 'frost giant' in the background also suggest it is a fantasy movie as well. The lettering for 'THOR' is decorated in the same design that thor's hammer is decroated in, however, to know this then the audience would have to have some foreknowledge of the hammer. The marvel above the title informs the viewer that the film is based on the marvel comic 'Thor'. The two main characters in thor 'Thor' and 'Jane' are positioned similarly to 'Tony' and 'Pepper' in the iron man 3 poster. This shows that they too have a love interest in each other just like Tony and Pepper. This is represented photographically. I think the intended audience for this film is 15 and up because it portrays violence in the film and marvel is based for teenagers. The persuasive technique used to persuade people to watch this film is their unique selling point. Their USP would be Chris Hemswoth, Tom Hiddleston and Anthony Hopkins who are poplular and favourited by many. The attention gained is through surprise at the fact that a 'human' is dressed in 'asgardian' clothing, suggesting that she goes up to asgard. Something that people didn't expect. This film doesn't have a tagline yet.
